Mini coachella on friday night

Last night Coachella came to Tucson for a half hour. Last night I stumbled upon a house party that happened to have one hell of a DJ under its roof. The DJ was a 20-year-old kid with grey pants and brown hair, a MAC and a red cup. All of a sudden an explosion of music came out of the kitchen and a dance party broke out. Upon hearing the words DJ I prepared myself for harsh electric sounds and a techno beat but my hip-hop loving heart was surprised. He brought out the best of his songs, the melodies of hip hop, the flow, the lyrics and the energy remixed with soft accompaniments of rhythm and song. DJSquints gave us a mixture of swaying hips and bopping heads, rapping up and down hands with 2 step feet. The lights were off and the backlights were on, transforming his small college living area into a v.i.p arena and a highlight of my week, possibly longer than that.

Not only did everyone at that party dance their asses off but the DJ was rockin out too, seeing him enjoy what he does really lets all the party people have more fun. Its like we are partying with the DJ, something that I would very much have liked to do after the show if the party wasn’t broken up at midnight by the cops red tagging the house.

His name is Eric Vogt. He is a guy that I could not help but hug after his set. A 20 year old guy from the UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA whoI was one of the winners of the Energy FACTory’s SweatShop Mixer contest and will be playing 30 minutes of mashups on Sunday @ 4:20 at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. He performs around Tucson at house parties. Check him out at
